November 12~15, 2010, the 2ndWorkshop on Fisheries Acoustics in China was held in Guangzhou. The workshop was hosted by South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute (SCSFRI), Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS); organized by Key Field Scientific Experimental Station of South China Sea Fishery Resource & Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Guangdong Key Lab. of Marine Fishery Ecology and Environment; co-organized by Dalian Ocean University, Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, East Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute and Xiamen Xiangyu YNB Trading Co.,LTD.. Vice president of SCSFRI, Prof. Li Laihao and Director Li Chunhou, as well as over 50 specialists and scholars on fisheries acoustics from 18 institutions home and abroad attended the workshop.
In this workshop, the representatives discussed heatedly on the application status of fisheries acoustics in assessment of marine and freshwater fishery resources in China, and development trend of fisheries acoustics technology, etc.. Meanwhile, they make an on-the-spot investigation on Nan Feng", the first self-designed and self-constructed comprehensive fishery resource and environmental science survey ship in China. Associate Prof. Chen Guobao from Fishery Resource Division of SCSFRI demonstrated how to use the world-leading shipborne fisheries acoustics system.
The workshop focused on international advanced technology, strengthened the cooperation between China and foreign countries on fisheries acoustics, facilitated the further development and application of fisheries acoustics in China. The representatives made an agreement on regularly holding the workshop on Fisheries Acoustics in China.
